The Right Tree
In the Right Place
After decades of taking trees down, I know exactly which ones should go back up. The number one mistake homeowners make with tree planting is choosing the wrong species for the location — a Norway maple too close to the foundation, a silver maple over the sewer line, a white pine under power lines. Fifteen years later, that tree becomes a problem I get called to remove.
We help you choose the right species for your site, your goals, and Massachusetts’ climate. Want shade? A red oak or tulip tree will give you a 60-foot canopy in 20 years. Need privacy? Arborvitae or eastern red cedar create a year-round screen. Replacing a tree that was removed? We will find a species that fills the gap without creating the same problems that killed the last one.
We plant 2-3 inch caliper trees — big enough to make an immediate visual impact but small enough to establish roots quickly and thrive. We handle delivery, proper planting depth (the number one killer of new trees is planting too deep), staking, and initial watering. We send you home with care instructions and check back during the first growing season.

What It
Costs
$300 – $1,500+ — per tree, including selection, delivery, planting, and staking.
Small ornamental tree (dogwood, serviceberry): $300–$600. Medium shade tree (red maple, red oak at 2-3" caliper): $500–$900. Large specimen tree (4"+ caliper): $900–$1,500+. Privacy screen planting (arborvitae, cedar): $200–$400 per tree, with volume discounts for 6+ trees.
We offer a discount on replacement planting when bundled with tree removal. If we are already on-site removing a tree, adding a replacement planting saves on mobilization and site prep costs. Ask about our removal-and-replace package pricing.

FAQ
How much does tree planting cost?
Professional tree planting costs $300-$1,500+ per tree depending on species, size, and site preparation needed. This includes the tree, delivery, planting, staking, and initial watering. We recommend 2-3 inch caliper trees for the best balance of cost, establishment rate, and immediate visual impact.
What are the best trees to plant in Massachusetts?
For shade: red maple, red oak, sugar maple, and tulip tree. For smaller spaces: serviceberry, dogwood, and Japanese maple. For privacy: arborvitae, white pine, and eastern red cedar. For fall color: sugar maple, red maple, and sweet gum. We always recommend native species adapted to Massachusetts soil and climate for the best long-term results.
When is the best time to plant trees?
Fall (September through November) is ideal — the tree establishes roots during cool weather and dormancy, then is ready to grow aggressively in spring. Early spring (March through April) is the second-best window. Avoid planting in summer heat when water stress makes establishment difficult and transplant shock is more severe.
Do you guarantee the trees you plant?
We guarantee our planting workmanship and will replace any tree that fails to establish within the first year, provided it received proper watering. We provide detailed care instructions for the first two growing seasons — the most critical period for a newly planted tree.
Can you plant a tree where one was just removed?
Yes, but we recommend planting the new tree a few feet from where the old stump was ground. The old root system and wood chips need time to decompose, and the soil in that exact spot is usually not ideal for a new tree. We will find the best location nearby and prepare the site properly.
