Brush Removal &
Bush Clearing
Overgrown yards, tangled fence lines, invasive brush taking over your property. We cut it, chip it, and haul it away. Serving 18 towns across Middlesex County.
What We Do
Every spring we get the same call: “I let the back of my yard go for a few years and now I can’t walk through it.” It starts with a few saplings and some bittersweet vine. Three years later, you’ve got a wall of brush six feet tall and twenty feet deep. We see it constantly across Middlesex County — and we fix it in a day.
Brush removal is different from lot clearing. We’re not taking down big trees or grinding stumps (though we can do that too). Brush removal is about the undergrowth — saplings, shrubs, invasive vines, overgrown hedges, and all the tangled mess that makes part of your property unusable. We cut it, chip it, and haul it away. When we leave, you can see your property line again.
The invasive species problem in Massachusetts makes brush removal more important than ever. Oriental bittersweet, multiflora rose, Japanese barberry, and autumn olive are choking out native plants across the region. Left unchecked, they climb your trees, smother your shrubs, and turn your backyard into an impenetrable thicket. We clear them aggressively so you can reclaim your space.
McDonald Tree Service has been doing brush removal across our 18-town service area for over 30 years. One call to (978) 375-2272, one crew, clean yard.

What It
Costs
$500 – $4,000+ — depending on area size, brush density, and access.
Small jobs — cleaning up a fence line, clearing around a shed, or removing a brush pile — start at $500. A quarter acre of dense overgrowth with invasive species and saplings up to 4 inches in diameter typically runs $1,500–$4,000. Larger areas are quoted on-site.
If brush removal is part of a larger tree job (removal or pruning), we can usually bundle the brush clearing at a reduced rate since our crew and equipment are already on-site. We give free estimates — call us and we’ll come take a look.

FAQ
How much does brush removal cost?
Small brush clearing jobs (cleaning up a fence line or side yard) start at $500–$1,000. Larger projects — clearing a quarter acre of dense brush and saplings — run $1,500–$4,000. The price depends on how thick the brush is, how much area needs clearing, and access for our equipment. We give free on-site estimates.
Do you remove invasive plants like bittersweet and multiflora rose?
Yes. Oriental bittersweet, multiflora rose, Japanese knotweed, and other invasive species are a huge problem across Middlesex County. We cut them back and remove the material. Keep in mind that many invasive species require repeat treatments to fully eradicate — we can clear them, but regrowth may occur without ongoing management.
Can you clear brush without removing trees?
Absolutely. Most of our brush removal jobs are selective — we remove the undergrowth, saplings, and invasive vines while leaving the mature trees you want to keep. We take the same care around your trees as we do around your house.
What is the difference between brush removal and lot clearing?
Brush removal focuses on undergrowth, saplings, and shrubs — clearing the ground layer without removing mature trees. Lot clearing is a more comprehensive service that includes taking down trees, grinding stumps, and clearing everything to bare ground. Many jobs are a combination of both. We will recommend the right approach for your situation.
When is the best time for brush removal?
Late fall through early spring is best. The brush is dormant, there is less foliage to deal with, and you can see the full extent of what needs to come out. But we clear brush year-round — if your yard is overgrown in July, we will still come take care of it.
Do you haul away the brush?
We chip everything on-site. You can keep the chips for mulch (free) or we haul them away. Large woody material gets chipped or cut for removal. We leave the site clean — no brush piles left behind for you to deal with.
